Went to the midnight showing of The Avengers. I got maybe four hours of sleep as a result and I feel kind of hung over, but I enjoyed the movie a lot. It was a lot of fun and I think they did a really good job of giving all the principal characters a chance to shine in things that they respectively do best.

I'm a bit disappointed in how much Black Widow's characterization revolved around Hawkeye, but I appreciate that they never made the relationship overtly romantic, and I did like some of the things she got to do during the film. I also thought Mark Ruffalo did surprisingly well as Bruce Banner - who knew?

Very, very quotable movie. Lots of snark from everyone, as can only be expected when Joss Whedon's involved.

I'm inclined to think that Coulson is not, in fact, dead. We don't actually see the medics call it, and we know Fury was lying about the trading cards; I'm willing to believe he'd also lie about Coulson's death in order to give the heroes a kick in the pants.

This is my story and I am sticking to it.

Nick Fury lie and manipulate people? Pft. ;)

I see your theory and I raise you a "Tony Stark figured it out." :)

I am willing to believe that! His line to Loki about "someone else who's pissed off at you" does make slightly more sense that way. :D

I mean, the sentiment stands regardless, but the wording is a bit interesting.

(Although on consultation I see that what I heard in that line and what other people heard are different, and my hearing is bad, so I may be totally wrong!)

Which line are you thinking of? The one already mentioned, or something else that I missed?

The one already mentioned: I heard it in present tense but at least one other person reports hearing it in past.

PERHAPS I WILL HAVE TO SEE THE MOVIE AGAIN TO FIND OUT.

(Also because I missed the entire Thor-Iron Man fight due to cracking up too hard every time Loki so much appeared on screen for a split second. You could /see/ him thinking "No matter what happens with the rest of this scheme -- this? This makes it ALL WORTH IT.")

It's not just you! I heard it in present tense as well.

And AHAHAHA yes. XD He looked like all he needed was some popcorn to munch on. Tom Hiddleston made some great faces.

Another friend of mine points out that the "Tony Stark Figured It Out" theory puts a lot more weight behind Tony turning his back and walking out of Nick Fury's little show with the cards.

There was also an in-movie reference to the Life Model Decoy.

Just sayin'.

Having just returned from a second viewing I can now confirm definitely that the line is "someone else you pissed off. His name is Phil."
