Voyage of the Dawn Treader!

I'm pleased by how much I recognize off the top of my head. (Hopefully they're just saving dragon footage for later. That's one of the parts that you really can't leave out.)

For the first time ever that I can remember, I was not able to go home for Christmas.

This is due mostly to my car once again refusing to start, this time on Christmas Eve, in a miracle of crappy timing. Ordinarily, even though I don't get much time off for Christmas, I'm able to drive down the night before, spend the night at Mom's, do Christmas Day with the family and drive back in the evening for work on the 26th.

Not this year.

But thanks to generous friends, I didn't spend the holiday alone, so I'm grateful for that. Mom will be coming up on Sunday, too. So it's all right.

Tomorrow I have to work, but after that, we're going to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Hot young Watson = yes please.

Also, whoever filled my Yuletide request is MADE OF WIN and wrote me a novelette all about Eve Genoard and the Gandor Family and unlikely partnership and Luck/Eve UST, and I love it so much I want to hug it: "While Recognizing the Importance of Luck in Certain Situations, Eve Genoard Continues to Disapprove of Gambling". (With suitably Baccano!-style subtitles for each scene, including "Inconveniently, Claire Stanfield Does Not Appear In This Story". Seriously, made of win and awesome.)

Have not figured out embedded YouTube video, so see it here.

I am waiting to actually see the movie before I issue a verdict on most aspects, but OMG OMG WATSON OMG ♥ ♥ ♥

Happy discoveries that I have made today: fan translations of (some of) the Baccano! light novels online here.

They're mostly not complete, but all of the first novel is up, and between that site and [livejournal.com profile] dawnelkin's LJ here, the fourth novel, Drugs and Dominos, is almost complete (and features a moment of pure unadulterated awesome from Luck, who has become my favorite character in the whole crazy business, and I swear it's not just because he's another random Takehito Koyasu character).

Baccano!, for anyone who's forgotten, is a series about Prohibition-era gangsters, thieves and killers and some elaborate shell games involving any or all of money, drugs, explosives, a train called the "Flying Pussyfoot," and the elixir of immortality. "Crazy awesome" about sums it up. The translations from the Japanese combined with the generally twisty and not-always-linear plots make the novels a bit hard to follow, but worth it anyhow.

So, the finale of Avatar was - and I say this as someone who wasn't all that impressed with either "The Southern Raiders" or "The Ember Island Players" - Nearly Perfect In Its Beauty. There was so much that was awesome about it that I can't possibly mention all the things I really loved.

ZOMG YOU GUYS )

Dr. Horrible, on the other hand... ow. :(

Tomorrow, The Dark Knight.

I ♥ Nathan and Hiro. Not in a slashy way, just in a ♥ way. Because they are made of ♥.

Cut for embedded youtube dorkiness. )

I'm glad they didn't actually put it in the episode, 'cause they already went there with the "biran"/"villain" ad lib bit earlier in the series and there's no need to take a great joke and beat it into the ground, but they are still so cute together that it burns.

Cut for unseemly fangirl squee. )

Finally made it in to see The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe! Happy fangirl squee!

...and now that I've had some time for the buzz to wear off, some thoughts in complete sentences.

Behind the cut just in case! )

I am such a geek when it comes to horses.

Watching Fellowship of the Ring, the scene where the Nazgul chase Arwen on horseback.

Me, point and squeal: "Flying lead change! Flying lead change!"
